Sutherland Shire Council is searching for unsung heroes in our community and we need your help to identify them.
Each year, the Sutherland Shire Australia Day Awards celebrate some of the incredible contributions from residents to our community. If you know someone whose selfless and often unheralded work helps make Sutherland Shire a more remarkable place to live, share this with us.
What are the award categories?
Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen who has achieved the most distinguished performance and/or made the most outstanding contribution to the Shire community during 2022.
Young Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen (25 or younger as at 26/1/2023) who has achieved the most distinguished performance and/or made the most outstanding contribution to the Shire community during 2022.
Community Group of the Year is awarded to an organised community group based in the Sutherland Shire, which has made the most outstanding contribution to the local community during 2022.
Environmental Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen or community group recognising outstanding environmental achievements in the local community during 2022.
How do I nominate a person or community group?
Nominations can be made by an individual or organisation. Simply fill out the form below and include:
- between 100-300 words outlining why the nominee should be considered for an award,
- provide a photo of the nominee (please note, information and photographs of award recipients will be used on Council's website)
